We've posted seven winning weeks and two losing weeks this football season. The weekend schedule is still being put together and this looks to be our most profitable weekend of the season. I will announce our other major events Friday morning.

The Wolf Pack should get pumped for this game -- It's all they have to look forward to each calandar year in the cowtown of Reno. The Rebels play in a tougher conference, against tougher teams and have more important games every year. The next game Nevada is looking forward to is a slaughtering in Boise. So yes, it’s a big game for them and the in-state rivalry just adds to that. UNR and their student body should get up for this game, but UNLV will put them right back to sleep.

While You Were Sleeping

As I write this at 6:15 am Pacific, the Hawaii football team should have landed back on the Big Island, Hawaii's charter flight lifted off at Las Vegas McCarren Airport at 5 am Eastern.

With 36 seconds remaining in last night's game, Nevada-Las Vegas wideout Phillip Payne's hands were 10 feet higher.
Blanketed by 5-foot-9 cornerback Tank Hopkins, the 6-foot-3 Payne cut to the corner of the end zone. Payne then soared to grab the decisive 15-yard pass and boost UNLV to a 34-33 football victory over Hawai'i at Sam Boyd Stadium.

For those of you who stayed up on the East coast to take in this thriller, you got to sleep around 3 am.

At Sports Monitor yesterday, the Executive Selections finished at 4-5 against the pointspread and we lost 1.2 units. Let's have a great Sunday.

Second Cheerleader Picture - 2009 Football

When your school is just blocks from the Las Vegas Strip, you can imagine is there would be some pretty girls that go to school there. Have you ever seen the show girls and the cocktail waitresses on The Strip? Some of the most beautiful women in the world are right here in Fabulous Las Vegas.

The UNLV cheerleaders represent some of the best in college football and college basketball. Two weeks ago, I had the chance to sit down at the pregame season ticket holder party with the UNLV cheer girls and they are a very pleasant group of young women to be around.

I'll feature one of them today and look forward to the win over Hawaii tonight. Late kick off tonight.

I'll be tailgating in the west parking lot beginning at 5 pm Pacific. Just look for the righteous grill and the serious touch football game. I've also got the Budweiser full keg on ice that everyone that passes gets a hit off of.

Cris Collinsworth is Wooderson

I don’t know how you can watch this clip of Cris Collinsworth from a 1980's halftime piece for Monday Night Football and NOT think of Matthew Mcconaughey's character from Dazed and Confused. They are the same guy.

In the clip, Collinsworth--- then a wide receiver for the Cincinnati Bengals professes his penchant for drawing the interest of high school girls, quipping, “Fourteen to eighteen, I’m a big star with them. As soon as they mature, after they turn 18, they start to figure it out.” And he said this on network television. Goodell would have any NFL player castrated if he said that today. The 80's were a good time.



Anyway, I thought that I would look for something funny this morning since it's 6 am and I just got home from the UNLV/Oregon State game five hours ago. For those of you on the East coast - the game concluded about 2:15 am Eastern, Oregon State 23 UNLV 21. Don't want to talk about it.

OK, I'll say one thing. Referees who call pass interference on a third-and-26 from your own 15-yard line late in the game on a ball that looks overthrown should be interrogated by Jack Bauer.
Really. I do not want to talk about it.

Post Game Celebration - Las Vegas Style

If you can read this at the time I'm publishing (Sunday morning 6:50 am), chances are you were NOT at the UNLV post game party last night. It's a light sports schedule today, just a couple late starting college football games, an evening NASCAR race and Major League Baseball.

Things I Love

UNLV Football

I support my local teams as much as anyone else who is proud of their region. I'm a fixture at UNLV games throughout the year, no matter what the sport is. Football, basketball, baseball, volleyball and many other sports as well.

The UNLV football program is a relatively small program but it brings endless hours of excitement to me. I'm a regular at their practices and I follow the team year-round. Homecoming week brings daily/nightly events. Next year is finally here and dare I say it - The Rebels will be going to a bowl game this season. Mark it down.

The Rebels return four offensive line starters from last year's team that allowed just 14 sacks in 12 games - ranking them among the best in the nation.

Starting quarterback Omar Clayton returns as does wide receiver Ryan Wolfe. Ryan Wolfe will be playing on Sundays next year - throw the ball to him, he's money.

The big question will be UNLV's defensive line. It appears that they are bigger and faster than what they showed last season - the Rebels were among the worst Division-1 teams in sacks and tackles for a loss in 2008.

Before I go on with 3000 words here, I'll back down and predict that the Rebels are a surprise team this year in the Mountain West Conference which will feature no less than three Top-25 teams, TCU, BYU and Utah.

The Rebels open with three home games this year while playing seven home games overall. The Rebels open up against Sacramento State this Saturday night and face Top-25 ranked Oregon State in week two. I'm calling for the Rebels to upset Oregon State next week. I'm looking for the Rebels to be 4-0 going into the rivalry game at Nevada-Reno on October 3rd. That's the biggest game on the UNLV schedule each season.

I'm looking forward to this Saturday's opener at Sam Boyd Stadium - a cold front is predicted for later in the week. It looks as if it's going to be only about 90 degrees at kickoff .
