Members receive all of Sports Monitor's Executive Selections and all the selections of 40 major services each game day. This looks to be our best weekend of the 2009 season.

That's football service:
- October
- November
- December
- January

Only $595

Just click on that "BUY NOW" button at the upper right of the page to get aboard.

How about that?
In this spot yesterday, I predicted that the Las Vegas Locomotives would win by two touchdowns over the California Redwoods.

Final score:
Las Vegas 30
California 17

Just saying.

Spray Hitting To All Fields

If you've missed this:
The United Football League season opener is tonight.

The Las Vegas Locomotives of the United Football League have been installed as a 7-point favorite against the California Redwoods in their inaugural game Thursday at Sam Boyd Stadium, according to odds at the Las Vegas Hilton sports book. If you're curious - good seats are still available.

The game is televised by VERSUS. Beginning October 8, VERSUS will bring viewers a UFL Game of the Week leading up to the UFL Championship game on November 27. How about that?

The Locos are -300 on the money line, and the game has a total of 40 points. In first-half wagering, the Locos are a 4-point favorite and the over/under is 20 points.

In a Saturday UFL game, the Florida Tuskers are a 4 point favorite against the New York Sentinels (-175 on the money line) in a game with an total of 40. In first-half wagering, it's the Tuskers -2.5 and an over/under of 20, according to Hilton lines.

Another wild finish to a high school football game.
Memo to defense - It's a live ball.

.............................................................................
Las Vegas Locomotives -7 points
over
California Redwoods

I was comped into this event - still, that did not tempt me to go, but after further review, I'm curious to see the spectacle - a new league --- so, of course, I had to make a wager on it. So, I looked into this contest and found something so that I could rationalize the wager to myself.

Here's my angle. Former NFL coach Dennis Green is coaching the California Redwoods -- and if that's not reason enough... The California Redwoods are owned by Paul Pelosi. Yep, that Paul Pelosi, as in Mister Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives. I'm looking for the Jim Fassel coached Las Vegas Loco's and quarterback J.P. Losman to win by two touchdowns over California here in Las Vegas tonight. Locomotives coach Jim Fassel wants to showcase Losman's talent and experience and play the sort of exciting, wide-open offense that Fassel oversaw when he coached John Elway at Stanford.

Handicapping Czar?

Just in case the White House calls --- I'm standing by the phone and ready to provide "The Las Vegas Option" and do my part to provide economic stimulus to those who enjoy speculating on sporting events.

Sports Monitor's Executive Selections and all the services are yours for only $695 through the Superbowl. That's about $29 per week!
Hey! You can't even buy one major sports service for $29 a day - Is there any reason not to get them all for one incredible low membership fee?

This is Sports Monitor's 29th year of professional sports information service. The 2009 Membership fee is still only $695 which includes free Private Play Service through September. Just click on the "BUY NOW" button to the right and get started today. The membership fee of $695 has been rolled back from the former fee of $1095.

Join today and you'll receive Greg Allen's free Private Play Service - the same program which has cost $895 per month for the last decade. Greg's Private Plays have been on fire. Greg has lost just two of his last 14 Private Play selections.

Did you notice? The 2009 NFL Season kicks off tonight on prime time television - NBC. College Football is also highlighted tonight as Clemson and Georgia Tech are highlighted by ESPN.

It's my 29th professional year. My Executive selections are 15-8 against the pointspread. I won my only Private play again yesterday - the Chicago Cubs. I've lost just two of my last 14 Private Play releases.

If you join the Executive Service today, you'll receive:

-- Sports Monitor's Executive Selections
-- The plays from all the major services we monitor
-- Greg Allen's Private Plays for the next three weeks - FREE

Have I told you that the $695 fee factors to about $29 per week?
I look forward to another winning week of football. So far, the football season is four weeks old -we've won every single week. Let's keep it going.

Post Game Celebration - Las Vegas Style

If you can read this at the time I'm publishing (Sunday morning 6:50 am), chances are you were NOT at the UNLV post game party last night. It's a light sports schedule today, just a couple late starting college football games, an evening NASCAR race and Major League Baseball.

Double Down Saloon
Known the world over as the Happiest Place on Earth, the Double Down Saloon has been bringing a much needed sophistication to Las Vegas since 1992. Interplanetary abstract. Urban decay. The Anti-Vegas. Double Down is indeed a clubhouse for the lunatic fringe.

DRINK * SMOKE * GAMBLE

Live music. Pool. Pinball. Hot chicks. Bums, punks, hipsters, bohemians, rockabilly greasers and regular joes. Touring bands and Hollywood types kicking back away from the tourists. Always expect the unexpected.

Absolutely -- The best after game party in Las Vegas. Only a minute from UNLV.

You have not had your ultimate Las Vegas experience until you've seen Thee Swank Bastards with Szandora play a set at The Double Down Saloon.

Inferno

It's Tuesday and I'm not up to writing anything about sports or wagering this morning. As this blog grows and becomes a branch of the website, this blog will take on a few meanings - at least that's the plan.

It looks as if the inferno in Southern California may be the biggest story of the day across the land. If this fire was near New York City - the media would be covering it wall-to-wall. Certainly you've seen the pictures out of Southern California - it's shocking and a real shame.

We had some huge wild fires near Las Vegas a few years back and I had the privilege to volunteer to feed and bring aid to the young people who work to contain these blazes. I must tell you that it's unreal what these fire fighters go through, I can still recall sitting around the camp and listening to their harrowing stories when they could be relieved and take a short break.

The California wildfire is impacting the weather here in Las Vegas as the smoke has filled our skies the last few days. Our skies are usually very clear. As you can see in the above photo - taken yesterday - it's tough to see and breathe in Las Vegas. That's pure smoke. The way I see it - Today's forecast calls for partly smoky skies and a high reaching near 104 degrees.

In Southern California - it's considerably hotter. Good luck California.

Things That I Hate

Part One.

One of the things that I hate most in this world are football and basketball games that land right around the consensus betting line. Last night's Atlanta/San Diego game falls into that category.

Sports Monitor put out Atlanta as the Five Star Preseason Game of the Year. At worst, the game was a push for those who bet on Atlanta. You can see the line movements in Las Vegas HERE. For those of you who aren't fortunate to live (and wager) in Fabulous Las Vegas, you can look at what the offshore books listed HERE.

As soon as the game was released to members -- at 8:25 am Pacific, the Sports Monitor email account was hit by a gozillion messages. Phones have always rung off the hook when this occurs. Everyone has a different pointspread - or thinks that they are getting ripped off if their line is 1/2 point off the preferred line - or God forbid, a line different than the one you quote. I hate when that happens. For those of us who work in this industry - we can't fix that - even your mommy can't help. As the popular phrase says, "It is what it is". That's the nature of wagering. Options and prices vary with the individual market. We do what we do and once the game gets out to the bettors - Then it's their job to do the best to find the line that they're comfortable with. If not, move along to another game. Nobody will get hurt.

Now - If you take a look at what the pointspread was at at 8:25 am (and throughout the day), nobody can debate that most (if not all) bettors could have easily bet Atlanta at -2.5 points and won that game. Most of the email that came into this office from members told me that people had -2.5 points. Before I go on, I'm not encouraging these types of email either! I will tell you that these types of email are rarely answered as the question is largely rhetorical, right? Once an email or a telephone call regarding a pointspread comes into a professional handicapping office when we're busy taking care of the bigger picture of handling entire membership, many good manners are put aside.

Part Two.

It was one of my desires this season to quote pointspreads when releasing games that were near a key or volatile number - but after the early experiences of the 2009 football season, I will shy away from quoting pointspreads. I honestly had an altruistic reason for wanting to give out pointspreads on each game and I expect to re-visit this topic again. If you're a member, please know that it's your job to find the best number for your personal needs.

One of the inter-personal issues that occur at a professional handicapping office is that feelings get hurt if you claim to win a game when a member did not. Again - every single bettor thinks his line is THE LINE. This situation happens all the time in this industry. If the headline above said, "GAME OF THE YEAR WINS!" ... I would receive a vicious email or two from the guy and his brother who did not win. Therefore - no headline today. No celebration, no confetti, - I'll just stop by the two casinos that took my wagers on Atlanta and cash in my ticket and enjoy the winnings. I sincerely hope that you are doing the same today.

In Closing.

I wish you all a safe and joyful Sunday. I also hope that Chula-Vista California beats the bejeeebers out of Chinese Taipei in the Little League World Series Game this afternoon. It's just a pride issue for this American. Oh yes, another hope - that tonight's Chicago/Denver game goes over the total of 38 points. Wink.

God's blessings,
Greg Allen

Ready, Set, Bet

The Las Vegas Review Journal has a story about the NFL preseason HERE.
